Prison Projects: 2000 – 2007
Dance United draws its knowledge and inspiration from a wide variety of work. It is this broad base of experience that forms the strong bedrock on which our programmes are founded.
This began with our work delivering three-week intensive dance projects in women’s prisons and young offender institutions. They included HMPs Holloway, Styal, Bullwood Hall and HMYOI Wetherby where we forged close working links with both prisoners and prison staff. The projects culminated in professionally staged performances which took place in prison gyms that had been transformed into theatres.
It gets something across to you that you can’t explain… it makes me feel like I’ve never felt before.
