We work in partnership with schools, Youth Offending Teams and Pupil Referral Units from across London in recruiting young people. The Academy is a unique project for young people who are not at school, college or on a training course or who are currently unemployed.
The programme pushes participants physically by intensively training them in contemporary dance. It is tightly structured, demanding and disciplined; participants are pushed to achieve their maximum potential and are strongly supported throughout the process. For these reasons, the young people are required to attend on a daily basis and with good time keeping and will therefore require support from ourselves as well as the referring partner in order to achieve success.
It’s almost miraculous

The Dance United Academy in London: September – December 2011
London Academy dancers performed new work in a double bill (with Only Connect) as part of the Koestler Trust 50th annual UK exhibition. Twelve dancers gave a highly professional performance of Me, Them, Us to an open audience on The Clore Ballroom at the Southbank Centre, after four weeks of working at the Academy.
Congratulations to the young people for their courage, bravery and professionalism. Fantastic!
Me, Them, Us choreographed by Sarah Dowling and Siobhan Maguire-Swartz, was created during our summer choreographic programme and was recently premiered in a showcase of new and innovative work created especially for the company, Rite of Passage 1 at Sadler’s Wells Lilian Baylis Studio Theatre.
Our current London Academy dancers will graduate on Tuesday 13th December with a special evening of performances including Me, Them, Us and their own choreography.
As a progression route, Academy graduates are encouraged to audition for metamotion, the London Performance Company. If successful at audition, graduates are invited to join the company where they meet twice a week to train and rehearse and will have the opportunity to work with various choreographers and perform at venues across London and the UK.
See Impact.
